Busan Port Authority (BPA, President Ki-tack Lim) will hold an international conference to mark its 10th anniversary, and BPA will invite a number of domestic and foreign port officials to the conference.
BPA stated that they will hold 'The 1st Busan International Port Conference 2013' on November 7th~8th at Busan Lotte Hotel in the presence of 500 port logistics officials.
It is the first international conference held by BPA since its establishment. It aims to strengthen Busan Port`s global status as the world's 5th largest port and to promote Busan Port and BPA to the world. The conference will proceed with the theme of 'Port Countermeasures for Global Shipping Environment Changes,' and will have four sessions.
▲The global economy and prospects for the international shipping market,
▲Countermeasures for vessel enlargement,
▲Climate change and eco-friendly ports,
▲Opportunities and challenges for the North Pole route.
In particular, 14 presenters out of 20 are from overseas. The opening session will look into the global economy and the current status of the shipping market from the perspective of the IMF and IAME (International Association of Maritime Economists) on the first day.
The vessel enlargement session will include talks on a container vessel enlargement plan of Maersk, which had their worlds largest container vessel enter Busan Port in July, countermeasure of Singapore Port (PSA) and Busan Port (BPA), and cooperation methods between ports and shipping companies.
In addition, countermeasures for global shipping companies (Hanjin, Hapag-Lloyd AG) and port authorities (Hamburg Germany) on port environmental regulations will be discussed. Lastly, BPA will invite North Pole route experts, who we rarely have a chance to meet, from Norway and Russia, and will look into actual cases of North Pole route operations and future challenges.
Korean and English simultaneous interpretation services will be provided throughout the sessions and there is no admission charge. The conference, which will be held next January marking BPA`s 10th anniversary, is scheduled to be held annually. BPA President Ki-tack Lim said, "We will host Busan International Port Conference in order to promote Busan Port`s prestigious status globally.
