The latest additions to the APL fleet, also its largest and most efficient, received Green Ship certificates from the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore at a presentation ceremony last evening.
The certificates were presented to the 10,000-TEU APL Chongqing and APL Gwangyang for meeting the conditions of MPA's Green Ship Programme. The program, which was started in July 2011 as part of the Maritime Singapore Green Initiative, targets Singapore-flagged ships with energy efficient ship designs that reduce fuel consumption and carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
Singapore-flagged ships that go beyond the requirements of IMO's Energy Efficiency Design Index will benefit from a 50% reduction of Initial Registration Fees (IRF) and a 20% rebate on Annual Tonnage Tax (ATT) payable.
The APL Chongqing and APL Gwangyang will enjoy Green Ship incentives until the end of 2019. Last April, NOL became one of the first organizations to sign the Maritime Singapore Green Pledge, committing itself to promote and support clean and green shipping in Singapore. < Korea Shipping Gazette >
