Wan Hai Lines Ltd. held ship naming ceremony for WAN HAI A11 and WAN HAI A12 accompanied by a charity donation today (19TH July) at Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje shipyard. The ceremony was officiated jointly by Mr. Chao-Hon Chen, honorary chairman of Wan Hai Lines Ltd., Mr. Ching-Chih Chen, group chairman of Wan Hai Lines Ltd., Mr. Charles Chen, president of Wan Hai Lines Japan Ltd and director of Wan Hai Lines Singapore PTE Ltd., and Mr. Jaytee Jung, president and CEO of Samsung Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. Ms. Vivian Chen and Ms. Catherine Tsou Chen named these two vessels respectively during the ceremony.
Wan Hai Lines had signed a total of thirteen 13,100 teu containerships with Samsung Heavy Industries since 2021. A total of 4 vessels have been delivered. WAN HAI A11 and WAN HAI A12 are the fifth and sixth vessels in the series of 13,100 teu containerships built by Samsung Heavy Industries Geoje shipyard. WAN HAI A11 will be delivered in late July, 2023 and deployed in Wan Hai Lines’ East-West trade.
The series of 13,100 teu containerships built by Samsung Heavy Industries is designed with a length overall of 335 meters, a breadth of 51 meters, a draft of 16 meters and a maximum cruising speed of 22 knots. The containership design takes energy efficiency and environment-friendly aspects into account. It is equipped with full balanced twisted bulb rudders, pre-swirl fin and also meets the highest level of requirement for EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Index) for phase III in advance. Besides, all the ships delivered are certified with “Smart Ship” notations.
In addition to naming the newbuilding, Wan Hai Lines also made a donation of necessities to a local charity Geoje Love House. We hope this small token could benefit the local community. The charity donation represents part of Wan Hai Lines motto, “We carry, we care”, as the company is committed to fulfill its corporate social responsibility, providing quality service to customers and bringing love to the society.
