The container cargo volume by May 2015 at Busan Port, tallied by Busan Port Authority (President: Lim Ki-tack) on June 24th, reached 8.109 million TEU, a 6.4% increase year on year.
Import & export cargo and transshipment cargo were 3.921 million TEU and 4.188 million TEU, respectively, a 3.6% and 9.1% increase compared to the previous year. T/S cargo accounted for 52% of the total cargo.
As of May 2015, the ratio of T/S cargo by nation is as follows: China (1.304608 million TEU), Japan (0.602629 million TEU), U.S.A. (0.602205 million TEU), and Europe (0.227361 TEU). While China, U.S.A, and Europe increased year on year 14.4%, 11.1%, and 10.7%, respectively, Japan decreased 2.7%.
The cargo handling ratio between Busan New Port and North Port in May was 65 to 35 from 64 to 36 last year. Cargo volume at Busan North Port increased by handling 2.796 million TEU in May, increasing 3.4% YoY, while New Port processed 5.312 million TEU, increasing 8.0%.
Busan Port container cargo volume continues to grow due to the T/S cargo volume increase. In particular, monthly T/S cargo volume in March set the highest monthly record by exceeding 1.68 million TEU.
BPA Marketing Team Leader Kang Bu-won stated, "We will continue our efforts to increase cargo volume at Busan Port by creating high added value cargoes through utilizing Busan New Port Distripark and carrying out various marketing activities to port users including consignors, liners, and forwarders."
