[ APL Boosts India Svc with New Link to Mumbai ]

APL Limited announced recently that its shipping unit has inaugurated
a new, direct container service between Singapore and Mumbai(Bombay) t
hat will speed the movement of goods between India and points in North
America, Europe, and elsewhere in Asia. Offered in conjunction with S
ea Consortium, Pte., Ltd., a regional feedership operator based in Sin
gapore, the new link will also double th frequency of APL’s overall c
arrying capacity to and from India for both dry and refrigerated shipm
ents.
Another benefit of the service will be the addition of a direct call a
t Port Klang, Malaysia, on the eastbound voyage from Mumbai. This furt
her expands APL’s extensive intra-Asia service network, notes Torey P
resti, vice president, Intra-Asia.
APL is based in Okland, California. The company provides containerized
surface transportation and related services in Asia, the Americas, Eu
rope and the Middle East through an integrated intermodal system combi
ning ocean, rail and truck transportation.
