The container throughput at Busan Port recorded 1,547,306 TEU in July, increasing 2.0% year on year. The port has handled over 1.5 million TEU for the past 5 months since Busan Port processed 158.4 thousand TEU in March, and it is forecasted to maintain its status as the world's third-busiest transshipment port as long as the increasing trend continues to the end of this year.
According to BPA (President Lim Ki-tack), Busan Port handled 785,294 TEU of transshipment cargo (up 3.2% YoY) in July, and surpassed the volume of import/export cargo (762,012 TEU) by 0.8%. The ratio of transshipment cargo by nation is as follows: China 30.7%, Japan 14.2%, U.S.A 12.6%, and Europe 5.3%; they accounted for 62.8% of total transshipment cargo volume.
The transshipment cargo volume in China (241,102 TEU), U.S.A. (99,283 TEU), Europe (41,905 TEU), and Russia (25,520 TEU) increased 0.6%, 0.9%, 13.6%, and 9.7% respectively, while that of Japan (111,397 TEU) decreased 4.2%. The cumulative total in July 2014 at Busan Port was recorded 10,661,989 TEU and the cargo handling ratio between New Port and North Port was 65% to 35% from 62% to 38% last year. Busan North Port handled 535,910 TEU in July decreasing 7.2% YoY, while New Port processed 1,011,396 TEU, increasing 7.6%.
