[ Port Charges in Pusan Cheaper than Its Rival Ports ]

Service and facilities charges in the port of Pusan was examined to be
generally cheaper, compared with other world-wide major rival ports.

According to KMPA and KMI, when we assume that the port service and faci-
lities charges is going to be 100 points calculated on 39,000 grt con-
tainer vessel and loading of 1,000 teus around and storage of such cargoes
in terminal for 10 days and berthing time being 12 hours, then the
comparison index becomes 216 in case of Yokohama and 160 in Kaohsiung
and 159 in LA and 159 in Singapore and 119 in Hongkong. They have further
disclosed that port dues in the port of Pusan displayed 4,747,180 won
whilst Yokohama reached 7,091,292 won. However, port dues in the port
of Hongkong and Singapore were much lower than those in the port of Pusan.
By the way, stevedorage in Pusan amounted to 59,306,400 won, while Yoko-
hama has charged 192,044,190 won, Kaohsiung 69,459,000 won, Singapore
124,950,000 won, Los Angeles 72,450,000 won and Hongkong 124,320,000
won respectively.
In case of pilotage, Pusan charged 1,328,420 won while Kaohsiung le-
vied 2,160,000 won. Very surprisingly, however, the pilotage at Singapore
came to only 210,000 won.
