Sinokor Merchant Marine (President Jeong Tae-Soon), a Korean carrier, announced it acquired the 832 TEU (11,031 DWT) container ship 'Emilia Sculte' from a German shipowner. The company paid it about USD 4 million.
The 'Emilia Sculte' was built in Mawei shipyard in China in 1999. Sinokor changed the ship name to 'Shinokor Qingdao' after the take over.
The Korean-flagged carrier will deploy the vessel into the Korea-China trade calling at Gunsan - Pyeongtaek - Shanghai from August 5th.
The 750 TEU container ship 'Mattys', which has operated in the service, has been redeployed to Beluga Shipping.
According to Alphaliner, Sinokor now has 24 container ships totaling 18,500 TEU, and ranks 54th among world wide carriers in global container vessel capacity. < 김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr >
