Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM President: Suk-Hui Lee) held its 2012 International Conference on Strategic Management on January 11th at its Seoul-based headquarters.
Not only Mr. Lee, the president, and board of directors but also sojourning employees at the foreign offices were present at the conference and they discussed about the business strategies part by part and the concrete methods to make them feasible.
At the conference, the company announced its great determination to exceed its previous container volumes with 3,200,000 TEU in this year. HMM measured if all the containers of its target volumes were enumerated in a row, the length would reach around the half of globe, about 19,200 km. The target is 8% higher compared with the 2,970,000 TEU of last year’s record.
Mr. Lee addressed “Let’s overcome the global depression using our 3 competitive advantages of service, marketing, and prime cost,” and, “I believe we can achieve a better outcome compared with last year, so this year will be the time for HMM,” in the opening speech.
Especially, the company focused on the expanding their global network through the G6 Alliance, which formed last December. HMM will deploy 5 x 13,100 TEU container ships into the Asia-Europe route from February and launch some new routes on the Black Sea.
In its non-container part, like bulk ships and LNG carriers, the Korean carrier submitted that its main tasks were to maintain its long term contracted customers and gain new customers.
