Eukor orders world`s largest car carriers from HHI
Korea's Eukor Car Carriers has placed an order with compatriot shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries(HHI) for four extra large Pure Car and Truck Carriers.
The four vessels are slated for delivery in 2010 and will be built at the HHI shipyard in Ulsan, Korea.
Eukor said the four ships will be the world? largest PCTC's when complete.With a length over all of 232 metres and a carrying capacity of up to 8,100 cars, they will each be equipped with a 150 tonne stern ramp and 13 single-stanchion-row cargo decks of which four decks will be liftable.
In addition to the four new vessel contracts, Eukor also signed another agreement with HHI to elongate four previously ordered 6,500 unit capacity vessels due for delivery in 2008-2009.
As a result of the extension the vessels will have their capacity enhanced by up to 20 percent.
Eukor is jointly owned by Wilh Wilhelmsen ASA, Wallenius Lines AB, Hyundai Motor Company and Kia Motors Corporation.
