Korean Shipyards win Qatar LNG carrier contracts
The Samsung Heavy Industries Co. has won a 1.14 billion dollar deal to build four liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers.
The deal from Qatar Gas Transport Co., Ltd. calls for Samsung Heavy to build the four carriers worth 286 million dollars each by Feburary 2010, the company said in a regulatory filing.
Meanwhile, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co.(DSME), the world's third-largest shipyard, said Feb 5 that it had received a 1.22 billion dollar order to build five LNG carriers.
The deal calls for DSME to also supply four of the five carriers to Qatar Gas Transport Co. Ltd., and one to an unidentified European company.
