Cars occupied the biggest portion of export items
Container cargoes from the Port of Incheon have increased sharply sinc
e this January. According to the Port Authority of Incheon Korea, carg
oes handled in Incheon for the first quarter of 2000, were 147,980 teu
, up 23% compared to the same period last year. Ocean-going container
cargoes increased 25%, to 112,983 teu, of which outbound cargoes were
52,312 teu, up sharply 32%, and inbound cargoes rose to 6,671 teu, up
19%. Coastal cargoes increased 18% (to 34,997 teu) over the same perio
d compared to last year. Cars were the item which occupied the largest
part, 34.7% of the total handled in the Port of Incheon.
Respctively Iron occupied 18.7%, chemical products 18.0% and oil produ
cts 8.6% of the total.
Among import items, all kinds of oil took the lion’s share with 41.5%
and grains followed with a share of 16.9%.
Meanwhile vessels coming into the Port of Incheon increased to 4,588,
showing a 12% increase. The number of overseas vessels is up 17% to 1,
653 and coastal vessels up 10% to 2,935.
