OOCL Extends CKX to Xiamen
Starting from 2 April 2000, importers and exporters in Xiamen, China w
ill benefit from the addition of a direct call to the port of Xiamen t
o the China Korea Express Service(CKX) which will provide fast and dir
ect cargo delivery to and from North America with improved cost effici
ency. The CKX Service is offered by Orient Overseas Container Line(OOC
L) under the Grand Alliance service arrangement.
“It is part of our commitment to providing unrivalled service coverag
e in China. Xiamen is an important economic region in China with a tre
mendous amount of exports of both general cargoes and fresh produce to
North America. The addition of the direct call is in line with the ev
er-increasing demand in Fujian province. Several of our major customer
s are expanding in the area and have requested an even higher level of
service standards. Now we are pleased to provide that,” said Mr. N.K
. Balling, OOCL’s General Manager, Corporate Marketing.
“With Xiamen reporting a 35 percent increase in export container volu
mes to North America in 1999, and projections for continued strong gro
wth, Xiamen si clearly set to become a major container port, “ adds B

The enhanced CKX Service also offers quick transit times on the westbo
und routing from North America to Xiamen. Transit times from Los Angel
es and Seattle to Xiamen are 16days and 13days respectively. “With Ch
ina entering the World Trade Organization, there is no doubt that ther
e will be an increase in demand for imported goods to Xiamen and other
Chinese regions from North America adn the new service is yet another
initiative by us to prepare for this future growth.” adds Balling.
The CKX Service was launched in June 1999 and after this enhancement,
the port rotation of this fixed day weeklyu service will be Xiamen,Sha
nghai,Qingdao,Pusan,Los Angeles,Seattle,Pusan and Xiamen.
