Road freight and logistics transport workers' solidarity in South Korea walked out on strike on February 4 to fight against the Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs (MLTM), who asserted a plan to raise the number of vehicles.
MLTM announced it will add 15,000 vehicles under 5 tonnes, so the solidarity organization issued a statement on January 17 and warned that it would call for the yeas and nays vote for a general strike.
A representative of the solidarity organization said, "The raise plan makes only logistics service companies and related major companies gain advantages, but transport workers will be deprived their 'right to live'."
He added, "As previously announced, we stand in solidarity and have started a general strike since 9 am on February 4, and we'll continue to vote for the strike until 6 pm on February 12." < 김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr >
