HHI machine factory construction starts in Brazil
Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI), the world’s largest shipyard, started construction in Brazil to widen its construction machinery market into Central and South America.
Around 250 people, include Byeong-Goo Choe, Vice-President of HHI, Sergio Cabral, Governor of Rio de Janeiro, Luis Bastos, Mayor of Itatiaia, attended the groundbreaking ceremony on October 9th.
The factory will be built in Itatiaia, a Brazilian municipality of the state of Rio de Janeiro, on 562,000 m2. HHI plans to inject USD 15,000,000 into this project.
A representative said, “The factory will produce about 2,000 excavators and wheel-loaders annually. Especially the equipment will be adopted to suit local situations and demands.” He added “We are also increasing the annual production to 4,000 until 2014 and will produce backhoe loaders, which are the main construction machinery in Brazil. We expect significant results for our sales to increase 20% per every year in the Central and South America market.”
Mr. Choe said, “Brazil is one of the biggest countries in Central and South America, so we expect this project will help drive their economy.” He continued, “HHI is willing to invest to create employment and contribute to the economic growth of Rio.” <김보람 기자 brkim@ksg.co.kr>
