Green DSME shipyard through effective energy management

DSME has applied the Combined Energy Management System (EMS) to all of the factories in its shipyard. EMS is expected to be the foundation of the ‘Green Shipyard’ philosophy and DSME’s application of this system is the very first in the shipbuilding industry.

The EMS gathers information related to all energy consumption in the factories and monitors this data in a centralized office.

This system controls the power system automatically based on data analyzed and collated by the EMS. If this system is set up perfectly, it is possible to reduce electrical power and gas consumption by up to 7% each year. Also CO2 emissions will decrease by 1,800 tons through using this system.

The EMS application will be extended from the paint workshop and will record a reduction in power consumption by a quarter in all shipyard buildings in less than five years. DSME also intends to pursue the goal of fitting the EMS system to vessels and offshore platforms.
