Air Cargo Handling Volume of Two National Air Lines reachs 1.2 Million
Tons in 2000.
The air cargo trade volume transported by two Korean air lines, Korean
Air and Asiana Airlines, will reach 1,224,000 tons in 2000, up 100 pe
rcent as compared to the trade volume of this year.
According to the report presented to the National Assembly by the Mini
stry of Transportation (MOT), two Korean air lines’ handling air carg
o will show a steady growth year after year due to the economic devel
opment and thriving in Southeast Asia and China.
Korean air cargo trade volume recorded 951,000 tons last year, but thi
s volume will amount to 1,235,000 tons in 1995 and 1,978,000 tons in 2
000 respectively.
In the meantime, Korean Air will operate fourteen air cargo fleet in 2
000. At present, they have ten B747 carriers and two A300 aircraft. As
iana Airlines will have five air cargo fleet consisting of two B767 a
nd three B747. The main reason for this expansion program is that the
y aim to strengthen their international competitiveness and be prepare
d against the the shippers’ever- rising demands.
