Port of Long Beach, container cargo volume slightly up in May

Overall container cargo volume rose by 2.3 percent in May compared to a year ago at the Port of Long Beach. Imports were up 4 percent while exports declined by 6.1 percent compared to May 2010. Overall, the Port moved 536,681 TEU last month compared to 524,715 TEU in May of last year.

Port terminals handled 375,100 TEU of import containers and 130,161 TEU of export containers. Empty container moves were up 8.1 percent to 131,420 TEU. Most empty containers are bound overseas for refilling.
