Foreign Shipping Companies’Turnover in Korea continues to rise.
With the increased number of foreign shipping companies participating
in the domestic market encouraged by the opening of its shipping market,
foreign companies’ overall turnover in the domestic market tends to be
ever increasing every year.
According to KMPA, during the second quarter of this year, foreign ship-
ping companies occupied 4.7 percent of the whole turnovers in the domestic
market, which shows that the percentage in this year has increased a
little bit more than.0 percent of the year of 1992 and 4.3 percent of
the year of 1993.
To look at the portion by each business, the overall turnover of freight
forwarding business during the second quarter in this year added up
to 66.76 million dollars and among them foreign firms accounted for 3
percent. At the same time, the turnover of shipbroking business amounted
to 5.88 million dollars in total, out of which foreign companies'
share was a 1.6 percent whilst the turnover of shipping agency business
came to 52.02 million dollars in total and foreign companies’share was
a 7.3 percent.
