Improved air quality at major airport terminals in Korea
Particulate matter concentration levels remains at 19% compared to the standard while Incheon Int Airport takes the lead
The air quality within and around Incheon International Airport and other airport passenger terminals in Korea has been improving year by year, and consequently, the particulate matter concentration level is reported to remain at 19% compared to the accepted standard.
When measuring particulate matter concentration levels at 13 airport terminals including Incheon International Airport in the first quarter, Incheon International Airport demonstrated the lowest levels, 17.8ug/m2, while Jeju Airport levels sat at 37.2ug/m2, which was relatively higher than other airports.
※ Cheongju: 22.2, Gwangju/Yeosu: 24.4, Gimhae: 28.2, Gimpo: 32.4
※ Airborne particulate matter concentration (ug/m2) in March 2010 - Gwacheon-si: 59, Gangseo-gu: 60, Seocho-gu: 61
The average particulate matter concentration level at airport passenger terminals in Korea is 28.5ug/m2, which is 19% of the standard (150ug/m2) set by ndoor Air Quality Control in Public Use Facilities, etc. Act and down 11.5% from 2009.
※ Average particulate matter concentration level ug/m2): 53.6 in 2006, 44.1 in 2007, 39.0 in 2008, 32.3 in 2009
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs said that it was possible because of efficient management of air cleaning facilities (air filters) and effective cleaning throughout the airports. The Ministry added that it will continue to undertake the task of guiding airports to keep the concentration levels of particulate matter at airport terminals below 30ug/m2.
