Amway Asia losistics hub at New Port A logistics center of Amway, which is expected to cover Asia, is going to settle down in the hinterland logistics complex of New Port. Busan Port Authority (BPA) announced that Amway, a global home care company, held the opening ceremony of its Asia Logistics Hub Center at the Phase 1 of New Port Hinterland Logistics Complex on April 22.
The center, Amway third one following the centers in the U.S.A and the Netherlands, settled down on the 29,000 square meter site and is expected to handle 8,000 TEU, worth 1 trillion won. The center is equipped with assembly lines and other production facilities used to export products imported from the United States to Asian countries including China, Japan and Taiwan after assembling, labeling and repackaging.
Amway said that the center is expected to create 50,000 jobs annually and about 100 billion won economic effects for the 5 years to come.
An official of BPA said that the fact Amway had decided to operate its logistics center in Busan instead of somewhere in China or Singapore verified the competitive edges in the advantageous location and costs of Busan Port.
Currently 30 global consortiums are operating or plan to operate their logistics center in the North Container Complex of New Port while Ungdong Logistics Complex is expected to invite tenants soon.<Korea Shipping Gazette>
