MLTM provides a standard logistics accounting program
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs developed a standard logistics cost estimating program that enables logistics companies to calculate estimated logistics costs conveniently and accurately, and thus save logistics costs and improve services.
The program was developed under the government R&D project to clarify complicated logistics activities and improve the efficiency of companies logistics. In general, most logistics functions ranging from material procurement, production, sale, transportation, storage, unloading and packaging are scattered across many different departments in a company, and thereby logistics costs are included in an indirect cost accounting where professional accountants fall short of demand.
T
he program is tailored for each company logistics cost management method so that individual companies can select the way to calculate costs and integrate data to manage it effectively.
It also provides additional services such as procedures and ways of standard cost calculation,
logistics and accounting jargon, exemplary cases, etc. The program can be downloaded from the website (http://www.krri.re.kr) for free.
In addition, the Ministry will offer education to promote the program and encourage more companies to use the program. The program can be used as an analysis tool for companies to get information necessary for logistics management and activities and evaluate performance, and communicate with other stakeholders.
The Ministry says that as the program improves the credibility of national and corporate logistics statistics, it will help other indicators such as the government logistics policy index and companies logistics performance index to be widely used. The Ministry plans to analyze the effectiveness of the program and continuously improve it.<Korea Shipping Gazette>
