Korean airports mark 10 accident free years
The Ministry of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs set up an airport safety management system to strengthen the safety of domestic airports and achieved a no accident record for the past 10 years, solving 134 problems for six months under stronger safety standards than those of IACO.
The airport safety management system applies to each of the 15 domestic airports and requires more responsibility of airport managers since it analyzes and evaluates each airport's safety inspection result, facility management, bird control, and air navigation facility management and immediately detects and solves problems.
The ministry has analyzed safety management activities of 300 officials in 15 domestic airports including Kimpo, Jeju and Kimhae international airports. As a result, it identified and solved 108 problems in safety inspections, 9 in bird control and 17 in air navigation safety facilities.
Furthermore, the ministry found 11 exemplary cases such as establishment and operation of LED vehicle boundary lights run by PV and encouraged other airports to benchmark the system. This is to create competition between airports and encourage voluntary and effective safety management.<Korea Shipping Gazette>
