General rate increase from Mediterranean ports to North America
Maersk Line announced a general rate increase effective January 1, 2010 from French Mediterranean ports to the US and Canada amounting to USD 150/200 USD per TEU/FEU.
The trading conditions for the carriers operating in these markets are still subject to unacceptable rate levels and the situation is unsustainable in the longer term. The rate increase is necessary to continue to operate services with a high level of reliability.
This is part of the rate restoration program communicated and planned for 2010, with the next increase planned for April 1st, 2010 at USD 400/500 per TEU/FEU for the general Mediterranean to North America trade.<Korea Shipping Gazette>
