Yang Ming to Launch second East Med feeder service
Yang Ming plans to launch a second East Mediterranean feeder service (TIX2) in January 2009. This will further strengthen its network, widen its service scope, and reduce transshipment costs.
Yang Ming plans to deploy two 1,800-TEU container vessels on the new TIX2 service and offers a weekly frequency between, in the order of port rotation, Port Said, Istanbul, Haydarpasa, Izmir, and Ashdod and Port Said. The new TIX2 service will join the pre-existing TIX service that runs one 1,200 TEU container vessel. The weekly TIX service covers Port Said, Ashdod, and Mersin and Port Said.
With two of its own feeder services, TIX and TIX2, set up in the East Mediterranean area, Yang Ming is capable of providing a reliable connection at Port Said with its direct services from Asia to the West Mediterranean or to Northern Europe, which carry East Mediterranean transshipment cargoes. This not only strengthens its feeder network in the East Mediterranean, but also opens up business opportunities for intra-Europe traffic. <Korea Shipping Gazette>
