Yang Ming Christens YM Upward & YM Enhancer

Yang Ming held christening ceremonies for both the new 8,200 TEU full container vessel, the YM Upward, and the 4,250 TEU full container vessel, the YM Enhancer, on September 26, 2008.

The YM Upward, an 8,200 TEU full container vessel was built for Yang Ming by CSBC Corporation, Taiwan, and was christened and delivered into the YM fleet at a ceremony held at the Kaohsiung Shipyard of CSBC on Sept. 26, 2008. Yang Ming’s other 4,250 TEU full container vessel was christened as the YM Enhancer at her christening ceremony. Frank F. H. Lu, Chairman of Yang Ming, and Mr. Wen-Lon Cheng, Chairman of CSBC, both presided over the christening ceremony. Mrs. Yin-Yin Chien, wife of Dr. Chi-Kuo Mao, Minister of the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, R. O. C., was invited to be the sponsor of the YM Upward. Likewise, Mrs. Jae-Sook Kang, wife of Mr. S. H. Lee, President of Yang Ming (Korea) Co. Ltd., served as the sponsor of the YM Enhancer.

Yang Ming ordered two 4,250-TEU full-container vessels and three 8,250-TEU full-container vessels to meet global market business demands and to upgrade competitiveness. All five vessels have been christened and were delivered to Yang Ming’s fleet in 2008.

The newly christened YM Upward will begin fleet services in the AE3 Service Loop (Asia Europe Loop 3). The rotation of the AE3 Service is as follows: Xingang － Qingdao － Shanghai － Ningbo － Shekou － Singapore － Jeddah － Suez － Port Said － Hamburg － Rotterdam － Antwerp － Thamesport － Xingang.
