Ground breaking ceremony for rest facility for cargo vehicle drivers
Construction of a rest facility for cargo vehicle drivers is expected to begin as early as the end of this year. The construction has been delayed due to truck drivers?request to secure alternative parking.
Busan Port Authority (BPA) held a ground breaking ceremony for the rest facility at the construction site located in Gamman-Dong, Nam-Gu, Busan on the 24th of April, inviting vice minister of Land, Transport and Maritime Affairs, Lee Jae-gyun, deputy mayor of Busan City Jeong Nak-hyeon and other guests.
The facility with one story below ground and three above ground will be built on a 14,848㎡ site at a cost of $17.2 million. The facility also will have a gas station, a vehicle repair center and a parking area able to accommodate 88 trucks. The facility is expected to reduce car accidents and traffic congestion caused by illegal parking of trucks and to improve drivers?working conditions.
Further, BPA plans to start construction of a rest facility for cargo vehicle drivers at the distri-park of Busan New Port in June 2009 and complete it during the first half of 2010.<Korea Shipping Gazette>
