President MB, Lee visiting Gwangyang Port
President Lee made his first visit to Gwangyang Port on March 21 since taking office.
He received reports on the current status of the port, and attended a seminar with chiefs of related organizations. Briefed on the port by Yee-Kee Chung, President of Korea Container Terminal Authority, on the 19th floor of the World Marine Center, the new President mentioned that the port has a high potential to develop thanks to its naturally favorable environment such as its deep water depth that can accommodate 12,000 TEU vessels and a natural break water as well as the extensive port Distripark.
In addition regarding STC Korea, a Netherlands maritime university opened early this year in the World Marine Center. President Lee added, He need to not only nurture logistics specialists but also learn through this advanced education.
During the seminar, many suggestions were raised by participants, such as the government?support for additional development of Jeonju-Gwangyang express roads and Yulchon industrial complex, and the necessity of bridge construction between Yeosu and Namhae.
Gwangyang was selected as the first port to visit by the President? office, and his visit is expected to be a good opportunity to see the potential of the port and to improve the new government? interest and support for Gwangyang Port.<Korea Shipping Gazette>
