2008 IPA joint marketing plan with ship owners in progress
Construction of the E1 Container Terminal which will accommodate the rapidly increasing amounts of container shipments at Incheon Port is going smoothly.
E1 Container Terminal Co., Ltd. notified IPA that it will bring in the latest cargo equipment with Doosan Industry on the 28th: 2 gantry cranes and 7 transfer cranes.
The gantry cranes, one of the latest pieces of cargo equipment that the E1 Container Terminal will bring in, is able to handle two 20ft containers at once with pulling power of 50 tons and process 49 containers an hour.
In addition, E1 has selected an electric transfer crane that will have a great effect on prevention of pollution, economical savings, and safety assurances. The equipment in the contract will be installed in November, 2008.
The construction of the E1 Container Terminal located in the south part of Sun-Gwang Terminal, Incheon South Port, started in February and is planned to be finished in December, 2008. About 30% of the construction is completed now.
The inner wall of the E1 Container Terminal will be 259m in length in which there will be one wharf where a 30,000 ton-class vessel can anchor and a 100,000㎡ container yard will be constructed.
When the E1 Container Terminal starts operating in 2009, it will handle annual shipments of 300,000 TEU. It is expected to contribute to increased shipments in Incheon Port and the revival of distribution industries.
IPA is planning to support new shipments efficiently to accommodate the increased size of wharfs by joint marketing with cargo-works before the opening of the Incheon Container Terminal 2-level wharf in July, 2008 and the E1 Container Terminal in 2009.
Twice in 2008, in the first half and the second, IPA is planning to progress port-sales which will allow ship-owners who call at Hong Kong, Singapore, Shanghai, and Tianjin Ports to add Incheon Port in their line. IPA will be accompanied by 2 cargo-works.
