OOCL Yokohama Named at Geoje Shipyard
OOCL christened the second of sixteen 4,578 TEU vessels ordered from Samsung Heavy Industries since 2004 on Thursday, July 19, 2007.
The newbuilding was named the m.v. OOCL Yokohama, by sponsor Dr. Jane C. K. Chan, the wife of Prof. Yue-Chim Richard Wong, Provost of the University of Hong Kong at the Geoje Shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries in Korea.
Mr. CC Tung, Chairman of OOIL said in the opening address of the ceremony, "OOCL Yokohama belongs to our modern fleet of Panamax class vessels. It is designed to transit the Panama Canal from Asia to our important market on the US East Coast. It is also very versatile and can be deployed in many markets such as Australia, Asia and the Middle East and it enables OOCL to deliver the exceptional, high-quality services required by our customers."The m.v. OOCL Yokohama will be deployed in the AEA1 service, after its initial deployment in the KTX1 service in the Intra-Asia region, providing a vital link between Asia and Australia.
The OOCL Yokohama's port rotation is: Kaohsiung / Hong Kong/ Shanghai / Chiwan / Hong Kong / Sydney / Melbourne / Brisbane and back to Kaohsiung in a 35-day round trip.
Moreover, the first vessel in the line of the sixteen 4,578 TEU series was named on Friday, July 20, 2007 at the port of Kobe, Japan. The Group will operate a fleet of 18 of these Panamax class vessels in total once the 16 vessels from Samsung Heavy industries are complete and delivered, in addition to the two vessels of the same class delivered earlier by Hudong-Zhonghua Shipyard at the end of 2006.
