Korea-China vessels accidents common
There are many accidents on ocean routes connecting Korea and China because of collisions with Chinese fishing vessels.
According to an analysis by the Korea Shipping Association, 34 shipping companies operate in this route with 118 vessels. An accident breakdown shows vessel collisions account for 54% (41 cases) with most on the ocean, and then for contact with 20% (15 cases), engine breakdowns with 15% (11 cases), and sinking and stranding with 7% (5 cases).
One insider from the KSA said, ?ollisions with Chinese fishing vessels happens often, and this requires attention.?By vessel type, tankers were involved in 39% (29 cases) of all accidents, towing vessels in 30% (23 cases), container vessels in 27% (20 cases), and cruise vessels were involved in 4% (3 cases).
By calling port, 74 vessels operating out of Shanghai and Ningbo were in accidents, while 26 vessels from Weihai and Yentaihad accidents and 12 vessels from Dalian and Dandong.
