STX Pan Ocean christened 2 new PC vessels

STX Pan Ocean held a christening ceremony for the 46,000 dwt PC vessels the 'STX Ace 1' and the 'STX Ace 2' on February 24. These new vessels will strengthen their tanker service.

The 'STX Ace' is 183 meters long, 32.3 meters wide, 19.1 meters high, and can cruise at 14.7 knots. The company announced that The vessel is important as it is the first vessel to synergize between shipbuilding and shipping.

The company will receive three vessels of the same type by February of next year, and will expand their fleet from 14 to 30 by 2010.

STX Pan Ocean expects these new and planned vessels to expand their share of the petrochemical cargoes transportation market and to reach 230 billion won (46 billion won per vessel). By expanding their tanker services to 5% of sales, STX will increase its diversity and stability.

STX Pan Ocean plans to enter the oil transportation market by introducing large tankers like VLCCs and ULCC class vessels, and expects to earn over 1 billion dollars sales profit through tanker services by 2010.
