Block Trains (BT) are a brand new international comprehensive logistics provider method combining rail and truck transportation using driver-owned trucks, equipped with its own inland terminals & own trains from ocean terminals of Hamburg and Bremerhaven to inland terminals or inland customers' doors, non-stop through the border. It is called tailor-made-logistics.
From Korea, especially car manufacturers like Daewoo Motor and Hyundai Motor have used this service to transport knock down cargo to Europe, and especially Poland. In Europe, BT services are popular and competitive especially for international long distance transportation. In case the Korean railway is connected to the north, the logistics situation would become similar to that of Europe. Naturally BT will be a popular intermodal transportation method up to central Asia.
Polzug is a successful model case of block trains in Europe who provide services from the west coast of Germany to Poland, Lithuania, the Ukraine up to the Caucasus, and central Asia.
Recently Polzug changed its name to "Polzug Intermodal Gmbh".
