Cargoes up in August for Gwangyang
Gwangyang Port increased its cargo handling as comp ared with the same period of last year in August this year.
According to Yeosu Regi onal Maritime Affaires & Fisheries Office on September 3, Gwangyang Port handled 131,000 TEU including 88,000 TEU export and import cargoes, and 43,000 TEU transshipment cargoes in August.
The result decreased by 1.8% as compared with the previous month, but increased 42% as compared with same month of last year.
Meanwhile, the port handled 20,000 TEU transshipment cargoes in January of this year, but it handled more than twice as many cargoes in August, with increases of 12% monthly. In the long run the port is recovering transshipment cargoes which moved to other ports for vessel controlling by Maersk Sealand last year.
But the total result by August decreased by 1.5% as compared with same period of last year, handling 903,000 TEU because of lower volumes in the first half of this year.
Yeosu Regional Maritime Affaires & Fisheries Office analyzed that cargoes increased because of many new vessel deployments from large shipping companies and new callings of feeder service shipping companies, and that the trend would continue to the end of this year.
