Ground-breaking ceremony for Gwangyang Port Marine Center
The Gwangyang Port Marine Center started construction after a ground-breaking ceremony with Minister Oh Geo Don from MOMAF and prominent members of the business community in attendance on June 10.
The Marine Center will be the center of hinterlands for Gwangyang Port, with real estate of 6,352 pyoung (1 pyoung is about 3.3 sq. m). The center will have twin buildings at a cost of 66.3 billion won.
The first building will be finished by December of next year, and service facilities like banking and postal services and a Korea Container Terminal Authority office amongst others will begin moving into the center in January 2007.
The second building will be finished by 2009, complete with an international conference room, exhibition room, and educational and lodging facilities. A branch school of the Rotterdam Marine University of Holland will also take up residence in the building.
An official from KCA said, "Gwangyang Port has the center, support facilities for port operation, and this will improve convenience for port users like shipping companies and shippers."
