Hyundai opens operating strategy meeting for 2005
Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) opened its 'operating strategy meeting for 2005' from Nov. 6 to 9 at the company headquarters. About 100 executives and staff including 60 overseas employees attended the meeting.
Hyun Jung Eun, the HMM chairman, said at the first meeting, "I thank for your labors. You showed Hyundai's energy and international sensibilities and confidence at the market forefront." The chairman asked employees to try harder next year, while she encouraged those who gave their best.
Subsequently, president Roh Jeong Ik said, "The shipping market is rapidly changing and competition between shipping companies is deepening," and he added, "So we have to prepare for the future to secure competitive power."
Through this meeting, HMM confirmed business strategies for achieving its container transport targets for 2005, or about 2,100,000 TEU, similar to this year's traffic volume. Especially, they discussed methods to increase competitiveness and maximize profits through service quality improve-ments and enlargement of their business system.
HMM said, "We had our greatest year as a shipping company with the largest profits yet. It is expected that this tendency will continue," and added "We will be born again as a world-renowned first class company that not only keeps its social responsibility, but also prominent profits next year with thorough preparation."
