Gunsan port cargo volumes increased 12% from January to October
Gunsan port cargo volumes increased 12% by October this year compared to last year.
According to Gunsan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Gunsan port handled 13,809,000 tonnes by October, up 12% (1,492,000 tonnes) compared to last year.
Export cargoes were 3,170,000 tonnes, up 59% compared to last year, and import cargoes increased 8% with 6,057,000 tonnes compared to last year. But coastal cargoes decreased by 3% with 4,580,000 tonnes.
Export cargoes were 3,170,000 tonnes, representing 35% of all cargo volumes. Volumes for car exports lead export cargo volumes with 202,762 cars, up 257% compared to last year. Car volumes were 2,300,000 tonnes, or 73% of export cargoes.
Import cargoes were 6,057,000 tonnes, representing 44% of all cargo volumes. Corn, wood, pulp, and silica made up the bulk of import cargoes at 61% or 3,697,000 tonnes.
Exports of automobile parts to Southeast Asia increased with container cargoes recording 49,616 TEU up 6% compared to last year.
It is expected that export cargoes will increase with automobile and container cargoes leading the way. Gunsan port cargoes are expected to rise again with the reopening of the Gusan-Qingdao car-ferry service.
