[ Latest Volkswagen Contract Adds ]
To HMM’s Car Carrying Corral
Hyundai Merchant Marine Co., Ltd.(HMM) has been recently awarded a
long-term contract for transportation by Volkswagen, one of Europe’s
leading automakers.
HMM will transport 36,000 Volkswagen cars(18,000 per year) from
Europe to Southeast Asia and Far East destinations for two years,
effective as of January 1.
In early January of last year, HMM won long-term contracts from Volvo
and Saab, which allowed the South Korean carrier to launch its
CAEX(Car Carrier Express Service) on March 1, 1996.
The CAEX offers a weekly liner service from Europe to Southeast Asia
and the Far East.
HMM plans to transport Volkswagen automobiles via a link with the
CAEX service.
Loading port will be Bremerhaven and discharging ports are Laem
Chabang, Xingang and Inchon.
HMM commented that the awarding of this contract proves the
competitiveness of the CAEX service, and noted further that it
expects to participate in the long-term contracts of other large
European carmakers in the future.
To guarantee a high-quality service, HMM noted that in 1996, it
undertook three PCTCs(pure car and truck carriers) able to move 6,000
passenger cars, and placed an order for seven high-standard,
6,000-unit PCTCs, which are due to be delivered between 1997 and
1999.
HMM also pledged to reinforce its worldwide marketing activities in
accordance to the customer’s needs.
