Inchon~Dandong passenger traffic increases
Passenger traffic increases in the Inchon~Dandong service are largely attributable to more tourists and research workers visiting Koguryo ruins in China.
According to Inchon Regional Maritime Affaires & Fisheries Office, there were 9,213 passengers in July, about twice as much as the same period of last year. For the year to date, passengers increased about 64% over last year, from 27,925 to 45,936.
The Oriental Pearl II leaves Inchon at 6:30 p.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. It transported between 100~200 passengers in the beginning of the year, but is now regularly taking on about 400 passengers per sailing.
Dandong Ferry Co., Ltd. attributes passenger growth to increased numbers of middle and high school excursions, university historical research, and group tours. The company develops travel products linked with Koguryo at Jian in China to attract many passengers.
An official at the company said, "We think that tourists for Koguryo use the passenger vessel because of convenient visa issuance."
