Busan port security suitable for ISPS Code
An examination of Busan port facilities showed that it's security system is suitable for the ISPS Code that goes into effect July 1, 2004.
Busan Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (Busan MOMAF) said, "We have examined thirty ports in Busan, and we confirmed that the port facilities are suitable, so we issued port safety confirmation documents July 9."
ISPS Code comes into effect July 1. It was established by the IMO to secure ships and ports after the terror of 9/11, 2001 in the USA. It affects international passenger ships and freight vessels over 500 tons.
According to the ports facilities security plan, there are three alert levels: normal, warning, and emergency. It also applies to cars and people entering the port.
An insider at Busan MOMAF said, "We confirmed that Busan port facilities meet the IMO safety standards. Ships may call at Busan port with peace of mind."
