Gunsan- Qindao route reopens around July
The Korea-China car ferry service previously suspended by SARS is preparing to reopen.
The Gunsan-Qindao service that was suspended last September is getting ready to begin serving in the route again after the announcement last April that Mokpo-Shanghai service would be reopened.
Recently the freight forwarder Sewon Maritime Logistics Inc. submitted a work scheme to MOMAF (Ministry of Maritime Affairs & Fisheries) to obtain approval for the route.
Sewon Maritime sealed a contract with a shipping company in Qindao and is now establishing a new joint venture, 'Sewon Ferry'.
Sewon Maritime bought the vessel the 'Orient Star 2' May 2 and changed its name to 'Sewon 1'.
It is said that MOMAF is now checking Gunsan port's facilities and CIQ for service approval and discussing the matter with Chinese officials.
According to Sewon Maritime, the service will reopen sometime around July after completing inspections and obtaining the proper licenses.
