HMM holds support event for Ryong Cheon residents
The Horizon, a volunteer club of HMM female staff, held an event to support Ryong Cheon residents who suffered from an explosion at Ryong-Cheon station in North Korea.
The club sold carnations at Juk-Sun Dong subway station on May 7. Hyundai Group president, Hyun Jeong Eun, and HMM president, Roh Jeong Ik, participated in the event with other executives and staff.
Originally, this event was supposed to raise funds for the local community, but was changed after an explosion in Ryong-Cheon. Over-and-above funds raised from the event, the club is also collecting donations from HMM employees.
The Horizon is a women's club of HMM employees and has 180 members. In addition to membership dues, it regularly raises funds to help the less fortunate. Club members visit orphanages, and helping senior citizens without family.
A club spokesperson said, "We collected more than we expected during the fund-raiser. We hope to help the victims in North Korea with the proceeds."
Reportedly, relief supplies of 6,150 boxes of noodles and 900 bags of wheat flour valued at 200 million won from the Hyundai Group were delivered to Ryong-Chon residents by land through the Korean Red Cross.
