Mt. Baekdu car exports improved by Dong Chun Ferry
Motor exporters favor the Mt. Baekdu service because the service between Sokcho and Hunchun in China extends to Vladivostok in Russia. According to Dong Chun Ferry operating the Mt. Baekdu service, the vessel 'Dong Chun' has been busy transporting cars to Russia since the service expanded to Vladivostok on November 6 last year.
The Dong Chun started on the service November 20 last year. A total of 163 vehicles were exported with 118 buses, 39 passenger cars, 2 pieces of heavy equipment and 4 trucks in 11 sailings up to March 4 of 2004. The ship also transported 48 passenger cars and 19 pieces of heavy equipment on March 11.
The Dong Chun transports mainly second-hand cars. Scheduled for transport in April are 1,000 buses and 100 passenger cars.
An insider at the company said, "Car exporters prefer to use a regular liners through Sokcho Port rather than a non-regular liners through Pusan Port since the regular service extends to Vladivostok," and added, "We expect that the Mt. Baekdu service will continue to increase."
