HMD orders already past year's goal with E.R. Schiffahrt orders
HMD (Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Co., Ltd.) has already attained its goal for this year by receiving orders for mid-sized container ships from the first of this year.
One insider from HMD said March 3, "We will soon receive an order for a 2,800 TEU class 10 container vessel equivalent to 0.43 billion dollars from the E.R. Schiffahrt head office in Hamburg, Germany. "
The total amount of the contract is the largest for a single project, equivalent to a half a year's sales for the company. So far HMD has received orders equivalent to 1.72 billion dollars this year, already in excess of it's 1.7 billion dollar goal for the year.
Especially, E.R. Schiffahrt ordered 8 mid-sized container ships from HMD in December last year, and increased that to 18 ships by ordering 10 more vessels over the past three months. E.R. Schiffahrt is a 170 year old container shipping company, and has 96 vessels.
Meanwhile, HMD received the new order because Swiss and Germany shipowners recommended that E.R. Schiffahrt order from HMD, lauding the quality of HMD's 2,824 TEU class container ships.
These ships are 222.14 meters long, 30 meters wide and 16.8 meters high. HMD will deliver one ship to the shipping company every 2 or 3 months for 2 years from November, 2005 to October, 2007.
HMD specializes in mid-sized container ships and mid-sized PCC.
