New callings at Kwangyang
Kwangyang Port will receive more new calling companies from this year. Yeosu Regional Maritime Affaires & Fisheries Office announced that the port accepted the calling of an Iranian state operated shipping company, IRIS, February 19 soon after China Shipping, and the Russian shipping company MCL called there. The IRIS vessel loaded 556 TEU containers and disembarked the same day.
One 3,000 TEU class container ship calls at Kwangyang Port due to suspended calling at Inchon Port. Originally the ship called at Pusan Port and Inchon Port. It will transport about 6,000 tons of tons coils from Pusan to the Middle East.
Especially, Kwangyang Port handled 119,000 TEU containers in January this year, an increase of 18.5% compared with the same period of last year, thanks in part to callings from large shipping companies like China Shipping. The port handled 40,000 TEU t/s cargoes during the period.
Meanwhile, Yeosu Regional Maritime Affaires & Fisheries Office expects that Kwangyang Port will progressively increase new callings between Central and South America and Japanese west coast ports.
