Kwang Yang Port cargo increases in January almost 20%

Cargo volumes through Kwang Yang in January were just shy of a 20% increase compared with the corresponding period of last year.
According to Yeo Su Regional Maritime and Fisheries, the Port handled 119,065 TEU, or 18.5% higher than the same period of last year.
KIT's throughput of cargoes increased from 2,038 TEU to 20,540 TEU. Dong-Bu Construction handled a 21% increase with 12,272 TEU. Global Enterprises and HKT increased 9% and 6% respectively.
But Hanjin Shipping and Korea Express decreased by 21% and by 5% respectively.
Growth was due to China Shipping calling at the KIT Terminal from December 2003. If overall current growth rates can be sustained, cargoes will likely reach 1.5 million TEU in 2004.
