Flat trade between Korea and Southeast Asia in 2003
Container volumes between Korea and Southeast Asia were at a standstill last year.
According to IADA, container cargoes were 707,082 TEU, up 1.77% over 2003. Member companies of IADA transported 513,211 TEU container cargoes, up 1.67% compared with the same period, while other companies transported 193,871 TEU container cargoes, up 2.06%.
Vietnam was the most improved service in the Southeast Asia export market, handling 45,385 TEU, up 35.07% compared with 2003. Thailand handled 61,686 TEU container cargoes, for an increase of 15.33%.
Meanwhile, the Korea~Southeast Asia import market recorded 449,562 TEU, down 1.86% from 2003. Member companies of IADA handled 341,788 TEU, a slight decline of 0.33%, while other companies transported 107,774 TEU container cargoes, down 6.04% against the same period.
The Philippines were the best for imports, handling 20,845 TEU, up 17.59%, while Vietnam was second, handling 22,241 TEU, up 15.74%. On the negative side, Indonesia dropped 12.93% with 81,809 TEU and Taiwan handled 9.24% less with 50,113 TEU.
The top handler was Heung-A Shipping, handling 123,150 TEU. Second was KMTC (Korea Marine Transportation Company) with 105,684 TEU.
HMM (Hyundai Merchant Marine) was third largest with 92,352 TEU, fourth was Hanjin Shipping with 62,252 TEU, and Wan Hai Line was fifth with 2,566 TEU.
KMTC handled the most imports with 106,217 TEU, Heung-A Shipping was second for imports with 80,488 TEU. Dongnama Shipping was third, handling 77,014 TEU cargoes, while Wan Hai Line handled 34,892 TEU.
