Korean overseas ship security evaluations at foreign ports
All Korean overseas faring ships will be subject to security checks at foreign ports when ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code) goes into effect from July 1 of this year.
MOMAF, the Ministry of Maritime Affaires Fisheries, concluded a contract for the KRS (Korean Register of Shipping) to carry out services for the convenience of Korean vessels, January 27.
The IMO (International Maritime Organization) wrote the ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code) for passenger and cargo ships over 500 tonnes for international operation. The rule of domestic operation for ISPS Code states that governments execute approval of a vessel security plan and security evaluation work, and governments ensure that an organization carries out security investigations.
To this, MOMAF designated the KRS (Korean Register of Shipping) as the security evaluation agent because it has the ability to enforce ship security. MOMAF also issues international ship security certificates to prevent domestic ships from calling rejections under ISPS.
