Kwang Yang port's business volume of dangerous cargoes is growing
Yeo Su Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office said that dangerous cargoes handled at Kwang Yang and Yeo Su Port reached 79.281 million tonnes in 2003. This figure is 7.6% higher than 73.262 million tones at 2002 and 31.4% higher than at 2001.
Yeo Su and Kwang Yang port separately treated 3,077 million tonnes and 76.204 million tons, respectively. The cargoes were 90% crude oil, and 10% gas and chemical.
To increase safety, Yeo Su Regional Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office plans to strengthen safety education and check stevedoring. Also it plans to run a "dangerous cargoes stevedoring safety committee" to improve regulations.
