Weidong Ferry opens Inchon~Qindao luxury car ferry service

Weidong Ferry Co., Ltd opened Inchon~Qindao a luxury car ferry service.
The company introduced a thrice weekly schedule from January 27 with the large and luxurious 'New Golden Bridge V'. It sails at 27 knots at full speed, and is 29,554 gross tonnes.
According to Weidong Ferry, this service was reformed from an existing four times weekly service with two vessels. The palatial car ferry service comes as the second cruise ship in the Inchon~Qindao line.
The company held a reception and sailing ceremony on the ship at the Inchon Port second international passenger's terminal. The ceremony was held with about 300 people congratulating Weidong Ferry president, Lee Jong Soon. Among those in attendance were MOMAF vice-Minister Kim Young Nam, Seo Sang Seob, a National Assembly member, and officials from Inchon City and CIQ.
Lee Jong Soon said in a speech, "We first opened the Korea~China car ferry service between Inchon~Weihai with a 8,400 gross tonne class 'Golden Bridge' in September 1990 before opening the Inchon~Qindao service in May 1993. We also were active participants in opening the Inchon~Weihai/Qindao container ship service last year".
He added, "While we will improve the transportation system with a information system that we developed, and introduce a fixed one-day customs clearance system at each of the ports in the Inchon~Weihai/Qindao route, thus improving our international competitiveness."
While Weidong Ferry expects that passengers and shippers will appreciate its better services, with express service transit times down to a speedy 5 hours.
